Coffee For Good

Somehow, Jesus, I like praying with a cup of coffee in my hands.

I guess the warmth of the cup settles me and speaks of the warmth of your love.

I hold the cup against my cheek and listen, hushed and still.

I blow on the coffee and drink.

O Spirit of God, blow across my little life and let me drink in your great life.

-Richard Foster in Prayers from the Heart

Like Richard Foster our first cup of coffee in the morning helps fuel our prayers.  Now your coffee drinking can also help support XMA’s ministry in Pane Honduras.

To help support their ministry Osmany & Jennifer Hernandez, along with the help of the people in Pane, have planted a small coffee farm in the rich, volcanic soil just outside Pane.  This provides employment for several of the local families as well as financial support for the Hernandez (not to mention rich, smooth coffee to fuel our prayers).

We now have a limited supply of their wonderful tasting, organic coffee available here in the US for a suggested donation of only $8 for a full 16-ounce bag. (Starbucks is $7 for only 11 ounces at Walmart!)  You will need to include $7 shipping but that covers up to 2 bags.

So, for a suggested donation of only 23 dollars you get 2 full pounds of fresh, hand-grown, small-batch roasted, organic coffee delivered right to your house!

Keep reading to see how you can pray for the Hernandezes and our ministry.

To help support their work the Hernandezes, along with the help of the people in Pane, have planted a small coffee farm in the rich, volcanic soil just outside Pane.  They employ several of the local people–Rigoberto Santos, a local pastor, and his family, Josefa, who is a single mom of 6, Otilia who lost her husband last year, Santiago and others help year-round.  During picking season Hernandez Family Organic Coffee employees about 30 people a day hand picking, sorting, washing, and husking the coffee cherries.  Then the coffee beans are sun-dried before being small-batch roasted, ground, and bagged by Felicia Santos and her husband.

Last year while serving the people Jennifer Hernandez and all three of her daughters contracted hepatitis.  All seemed to recover well but then Beca, their oldest daughter, become ill again and continued to worsen.  It was finally determined that the hepatitis damaged her liver requiring extended treatment in the US.  Jennifer and the children have been in the US for almost a year now while Osmany is keeping the work going in Pane.

The Hernandez family needs your prayers, especially for Beca’s healing, so they can all be back together as a family serving the people of Pane.  You can also help them financially by drinking their family-grown, freshly roasted and ground, organic coffee. (They had no insurance coverage for the extensive US treatment.)
